Frequently Asked Questions
Where are your trailers are made?
Great question! Our trailers are designed in Australia and crafted in our supplier’s factory in China, where we ensure strict quality control to meet Aussie conditions.
We understand the preference for Australian-made, but not everyone can afford it. To keep costs affordable without compromising on quality, this is the best alternative. Plus, every trailer comes with a 12-month warranty for peace of mind.
At Wags Gear, we proudly support Australian-made whenever possible, and we’re always here to chat about any concerns!
What is Hot Dip Galvanising?
Hot dip galvanising protects metal surfaces, such as aluminum and steel, from corrosion by coating them with a layer of zinc. After the trailer is manufactured, it’s dipped into molten zinc heated to about 460°C, which flows through and around the chassis, forming a strong shield against rust and oxidation.
Although highly effective for corrosion prevention, hot dip galvanising requires minimal maintenance to maximize your trailer’s lifespan. For more information, refer to the Galvanizers Association of Australia.
Since hot dip galvanising prioritizes industrial durability over aesthetics, the surface of your trailer may not have the smooth finish of paint. Minor cosmetic imperfections are normal and not considered defects. Common occurrences include:
- Partial coverage in some areas
- Holes drilled post-galvanising
- Cold-gal applications after dipping
- Steel warping from heat exposure
- Zinc runs or buildup
- Grinding marks from excess zinc removal
- White oxidation due to humidity
- Repairing Galvanised Coating
If your trailer’s galvanised coating gets damaged, you can easily repair it using a cold-gal spray. Apply the touch-up quickly to prevent oxidation available at our retail store.
What is the difference between round axles and square axles?
Square Axles:
Square axles are a popular choice for heavy-duty applications due to their strength and stability. They are made from solid steel and provide better structural integrity because of their shape. The flat sides of square axles help in evenly distributing the load, making them ideal for trailers designed for carrying heavy or uneven loads.
Strength: Square axles are generally stronger and can handle more stress compared to round axles of similar dimensions.
Load Distribution: The square shape allows for better attachment points for suspension and brakes, offering increased stability under load.
Durability: Square axles tend to last longer under harsh conditions due to their structural design.
Preferred Uses: Heavier trailers, including those for machinery and livestock, often use square axles for their durability and ability to handle higher load capacities.
Round Axles:
Round axles are more commonly used in lighter applications. They offer a smoother ride due to their circular shape but are generally less strong than square axles. Round axles have less material in their design, making them 22% weaker compared to square axles of the same size.
Strength: Round axles, while sufficient for lighter loads, are inherently weaker due to the reduced amount of material used, resulting in up to 22% less strength compared to square axles.
Flexibility: The circular design allows for more flex, which can result in smoother handling, especially on rough terrain. However, this also means they are more prone to bending under heavy loads.
Weight Capacity: Since they are weaker, round axles are better suited for lighter trailers that don’t require the load-bearing capacity of a square axle.
Preferred Uses: Small trailers, such as utility or garden trailers, often use round axles for lighter-duty purposes.
